Given the furious competition among compacts between the Elantra, Civic, Mazda3, Focus and the Corolla, Toyota will undoubtedly sell tons of them; the content level in compacts as well as family sedans is exceedingly high (thanks to Honda of course), and has been for over three decades, and continues to go up seemingly every year whenever a new model hits showrooms.
The Kia Forte is the new kid on the block in this category, but based on that glowing review from Consumer reports, won't be a secret much longer.
After all it is a Corolla, nobody expected them to come out with a 600 HP race car. The competition in that segment and actually all segments is pretty tight now. Most people who buy Toyota or Honda, buy it for hopes of better reliability-not going to argue whether that is true or not. But the competition has stepped it up.
I, for one, ended up with a Mazda CX-9, even though I cross shopped it with the Honda and Toyota offerings. I would probably be in the market for a small commuter car soon (health permitting). I am going to take a hard look at Mazda 3, esp the skyactive engine, the Ford Focus (esp the manual ST), Elantra and Forte among others. But I am not your regular shopper. I have had lemons from Toyota in the past and I have had great, reliable cars from less reputable manufacturers, (Mitsubishi). So I buy what I like and try to maintain it properly and keep my fingers crossed.
Now that we've seen what it looks like, is there anyway to pull the curtains back down?
If they lose sales they might change it. Unfortunately, most Toyota buyers are drones who are pre-programmed to only buy Toyota, so that probably won't happen.
The styling is not something I like but I would still consider one if I was shopping in this segment as the quality/reliability is going to be A+ given the reputation of the brand.
On the other hand I would opt probably for the new redesigned Nissan Sentra which is pretty sharp looking.

I'm not impressed. I see nothing special about this vehicle. Like all the Toyota models, it is bland in styling. This one looks like every other car its size, now with an ugly front end. No.
I don't like it. the 2013 corolla S model looks better. This new one makes me not like Toyota anymore. Lol I'm liking Honda more and more each day.
