Unfortunately, Toyota/Lexus is trying to inject an identity into all their lines w/ that mouth. It doesn't look good (except on certain lines), and if you drive a Lexus, your car is now associated even more w/ Toyota, which "devalues" your car since it's now just a regular 'ole Toyota instead of a luxury vehicle.
I'd step up to the mid sized segment personally and get the 2.5 liter I4 engine of the Camry... I have the 3.5 Liter V6. Honestly if you have $25K or higher to spend, just go get a 2014 or newer Chevy Impala 2LT or 2LTZ. They are a sweet vehicle. Make sure you get the flex fuel V6, not the I4.
Honestly it's hard to pick a car out these days... they are so similar to me... I look at reliability first, then engine size, and finally looks and interior spec. I've never been that big on style...
It's like they're trying to make a dull and reliable commuter car "exciting" and "sporty". Back in the 80s there were some fun to drive Corollas. The reliable and fuel efficient Corolla appeals to a wide market from old to young. They need to be careful because if they make the styling too bold without any real performance then they may lose both the young and the old. I was considering a Corolla until they changed the nose to that big mouth front end. Just too ugly for me to look at daily.
my Scion iA front is a face that only a mother can't even love.
Actually, I've decided that I really like the 2017 model and will be getting one when it comes out. lol What persuaded me is that all trims will have the option of adding the Toyota Safety Sense feature.
Yeah, that is the soon to be arriving 2017 model. I have not yet seen pics yet of the L, LE or what I am hearing is a new XLE trim to the line, but I imagine they will have that same grill. It is a trend that Toyota has been going toward the past few years (aka Camry) and notice that the Highlander and Avalon are getting those larger grills. I am not a fan myself of them, but do have the '17 Corolla on my list of potential next new car (as well as the new '16 Civic and soon arriving all-new '17 Impreza).
I do like the fact that the '17 model is supposed to have the Toyota Safety Sense option on all trims (trying to keep up with Honda since it offers it even on the base Civic as an option). I also heard from IIHS that Toyota is "beefing" up the front-end structure of the '17 model to hopefully make it a better performer in the IIHS small overlap crash, as the 14-16 models only rated marginal in this test due to the poor structure rating of the '14 model that has lingered on through '16. It would have been better had the '14 done poorly overall, then Toyota would have been prompted to make upgrades for the '15-16 models, but they let the marginal rating slide on a couple of years, which is sad. They are going to test one as soon as it becomes available.
I was hoping they would finally pad the tops of the door panels on the '17, but read that didn't happen. I would also like a nicer gauge cluster, overhead console lighting at night and a cap-less fuel tank (like the new Civic), but I guess these are things we will likely not see as new on the '17 Corolla.
I for one am anxious to see the '17 Corolla LE and XLE, but oddly even the Toyota website only mentions the XSE and 50th Anniversary Edition upgrades for '17.
