Toyota makes a fantastic vehicle, a cynic would think HUGE amount negative media over this was an attempt to boost domestic sales...anyone who doesn't want their Toyota anymore, give it to me I'll take it....
You are absolutely right Moneyboy.
Toyota does make great vehicles and most (smart) Americans know this and won't be fooled by the US Government's attempt to discredit Toyota. We realize the witch-hunt and also know that GM, Ford and Chrysler are inferior.
I actually like the new Toyota commercials. You say "cheesy" see Geico's commercials.
The recent commercials are nothing more than damage control. There are still plenty of questions that have been left unanswered, and the investigation is long from over.

Don't believe everything you read, especially from the NYTimes. It is an extremely liberal newspaper--on Obama's side to help justify and boost sales to GM and Chrysler. Wake up people!
As a GM owner.. (All my life) and from someone who had been in many debates with Toyota truck owners over the reliability of Toyota work trucks vs. GM, I get a good laugh over the new campaign designed to combat the media onslaught with tail tucking modesty...
Don't you also laugh when they try to blame the media for Toyota's problems?

Your rants against Obama and the media are straight out of the Fox News book of talking points.

Absurdity.
Inferior in what respect? Ford offers more technology, more 5 star safety rated vehicles, more horsepower, and more fuel efficiency than many comparable Toyota models. Certain Fords are now more reliable.
"Smart" people are those who shop around and judge vehicles in person, not based no heresy or outdated perception.
Cheesey, yeah somewhat. They remind of a cheating spouse who is trying to make up for what they have done and is trying to hard that it is getting on your nerves. With that said they do make good cars but this situation was not handled properly. If it was acknowledged form the start and not let get out of had it would not be so bad. Other brands have had serious issues but were handled quickly and have bounced back. I do not own a Toyota, my last two SUVs were Isuzu and I love them.

I would have to disagree that the product Ford is producing now is inferior to that of Toyota. Ford has made tremendous strides in their vehicle line up and is only going to get better. I own two 2010 Toyota vehicles, a Tundra and a Prius, so I am an unbiased owner.
I'm not sure I'd equate the current problem to one of quality. Quality to me is a car that runs 150k carefree miles, where all I do is change the oil and turn the key
My guess is that a portion of the sudden accelerations are operator error. But there might be some difficult to diagnose problem with the fuel delivery system. I expect Toyota is all over this, the difficulty they are having diagnosing the problem indicates just how unlikely it is to happen...
