yea pretty much I went to Baltimore and got a room for $86 per night through hotwire. Everywhere else the room was $180 +. What you do is look at the area and google the amenities in that area... you should get an idea of what hotel hotwire will choose.

I don't want to sound dumb, but how do I do the google search?
Since '97, I've used priceline exclusively for airline & hotel when on vacation/biz. Never had a bad experience & have stayed in 4-5 star hotels only, the highest $90/night for a normally $250 room. For airfare, I've paid 1/2 or 1/3 of the price on other sites. I didn't think the rental car saved me that much (a few dollars), but airfare & hotel, definitely.
Forgot to mention, I have a credit card that I only use for online purchases. It has a smaller limit. That way, should it ever be compromised, I can easily close that account & not be without credit. I've never had a problem using a CC online, however.
I used Priceline once during a family emergency (had to book a flight) and everything was fine.
I have to admit, I do like a bit more choice and control than Hotwire or Priceline offer, but that's just me. I know some people who use Hotwire exclusively for flights.
