I was curious....is there a website where 2 people of limited economic means could get together and get a swanky hotel room somewhere so it's not as strenuous on their wallet but they could still enjoy a great experience?
I know it's with strangers, but is there such a website like that out there? Of people trying to share the costs of a hotel/all-inclusive experience?
The reason I ask is that I really want to travel to the Maldives while they're still over water & I don't have a girlfriend, nor do I seem to have any chance of getting 1 anytime soon & none of my friends have as much $$$ as I do to be able to afford the plane ticket, let alone the hotel room. I don't want to do it all by myself, though.
Anyone know of any such site? It would be amazing if one exists! And if it doesn't.....let's make one!
There's a couchsurfing thread you might want to look at.
I used airbnb recently and had a great accommodation and time.
Good luck finding anything in Maldives without it being a resort. You'd pay single supplement, but if you dive, you'd be meeting lots of other people.
Yeah, I know of airbnb, but I was looking for something that is entirely different: 2 people meeting together online & agreeing to share hotel expenses so they could enjoy an all-inclusive resort.
Or does such a website not exist yet?
*light bulb goes over head*
But how on earth would I go about making one? Hmmmm.....

I would be very wary of your scenario.
The difference is usually only about $50 anyway.
If you can afford to go to the Maldives, $50 or so won't break the bank.
Share a motel room with a total stranger? Gee, no thanks.
I have seen websites where they pair people up so they can get double rooms on cruise ships and not pay the very high singles supplement.
Personally, I don't do anything in my motel room but fall in to bed exhausted and sleep. So I would rather save money there, get a plain room, and have more cash to see the sights or perhaps eat at a special restaurant.
Adding this suggestion: better, perhaps to shop hard at the bargain sites and get your fancy motel room for a discount price and use it solo.
