If I were you, I would really plan around flying into and out of one city, this would save a lot of money. It is easy to schedule this in Europe as every place as some sort of cheap flight, train or something to get you back to your destination. So if you flew into Madrid for example, and finished in Stockholm, you could fly for cheap to Madrid to catch your flight, or just plan the last leg of your trip by train to end up in Madrid.
I'll check into flying within Europe. The other reason why I don't want to do that is I don't want to have a set date to return. I want to be able to do whatever I want without needing to head back by a particular date.
I'm about 80% on flying into Spain. I was only able to visit Barcelona in Spain and I loved it. I'd love to see more Spain and France too.
Thinking more Eastern European than the Scandinavian / Northern countries as it'll be cheaper.
Why not then fly into Spain, make your way over to Stockholm by train, then take a boat over to Tallin. From Tallin, make your way straight south through eastern Europe. Finish up in Istanbul.
Did a sample LAX-MAD round trip, August - November was around $1300
LAX-MAD IST-LAX Open Jaw was around $1100
IMHO, I would do MAD-BCN-CDG-BRU-AMS-TXL-MUC-VIE-ZRH-VIE-FCO then fly to PRG-IST then home. That gives you 13 weeks, or 91 days, which if you end in Istanbul would keep you under the 90 day limit for the EU
Looks like we are gonna start in Spain head eastward to Romania. The GF really wants to go to Romania. Then I want to go a guided tour in Egypt. Its about 400 for the flight form Romania to Egypt and fly home from Egypt.
Either go Spain, France, S. Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania
or
Spain, France, N. Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Romania
I really wanted to go to Berlin but I think the first route is easier and cheaper. And yes, I will be flying out of LAX so that is a good location for international flights.
Then go Spain, France, go to Zurich, Salsburg, Munich, Prague, down to Bratislava, take the boat to Vienna, then take the boat down the Danube to Budapest. The go on into Romania, then your flight to Egypt.
Instead of going from Berlin down to Italy, how about just switch from Berlin down through Poland, then to Prague.
If she is firm to see Italy, then from Budpest, go to Slovenia, take a train over to Venice, swing to Milan for example, than track down to a ferry terminal that will take you to Greece, then from Greece make your way up to Romania.
