For what it's worth I renewed my passport by mail recently and was astounded how quickly the replacement came. Three weeks!!!

Great point. And that Visa is only as good as the Passport. So, if your Passport expires, so does your Visa. You need to reapply for a Visa for your new Passport.

I've had to do this and it wasn't too much of a hassle...it's just like applying for the Visa for the first time ( in my country anyway, it might be different in Mexico) I had to return to the States to renew the Passport, took 2 weeks, and then flew back and got my Visa.

OP: If you fly into Miami you can get your Passport done in one day if you have all your ducks in a row. Go to the State.gov website...you'll find all the answers you need.

Many U.S. embassies/consulates overseas issue the new passport on the spot. So I would definitely suggest the OP consider renewing his/her passport outside the USA.
