Define 'super hot'. If you want to do touristy stuff (not sure what all that is either), what about northern MN. It can be in the 80's in August up north so I don't know if that is too hot. There are a lot of casinos, small towns with gift shops/specialty shops, etc. There are a lot of resorts with spas as well.

The Pacific Northwest (Oregon/Washington) never gets really that hot for long periods of time so that might be an option.

Vancouver, Vancouver Island , from Victoria to Tofino and the Gulf Islands, taking in the beautiful Olympic Peninsula in Washington.

The Pacific beaches are superb, you can go on a Whale watch, lots of museums and art galleries, good shopping, nice restaurants and B&Bs, a fabulous destination .

Absolutely stunning, warm but not hot , and lots to see and do. I would recommend to anyone.

Have you thought of the Oregon Coast? Plenty of little coastal towns to visit, some Indian casinos, festivals, etc. Newport has an aquarium, there are little museums and botanical gardens along the coast. An hour inland there are wineries, and other tourist type activities. Traveloregon dot com is a good spot to get started.

There is also the California Coast. San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Monterrey, Half Moon Bay, Ft. Bragg, Mendocino Coast, etc. Lots of things to do and see.

Thanks for all the suggestions everybody! Although India sounds like an exotic and exciting prospect, I think it's something I'd want to save for hubby. I can't go see the Taj Mahal without him!

Well, you know how some people go on vacation to vege out and do nothing but lay by the pool all day? That's not what I do on vacations. When I say touristy, I guess I mean stuff like sightseeing, scenic stuff, visiting monuments, experiencing culture (any kind that's just different from you own - I consider each town in the US to have its own culture for example and not just referring to race or country), going to museums, some shopping. Activity type stuff though not sports or outdoorsy things. Well, I don't mind it but my Mom would. I would consider around 90 to be fair weather for August. "Super hot" would be like 100+.

So far I am sold on Lake Tahoe and will have to do more research. Vancouver we've been but that was the original plan, to do a train trip from Vancouver to Calgary. Last time we did the Alaska cruise so it's kinda different!

I'm enjoying reading everybody's posts. Keep 'em going if anybody's got anything else. Thanks again!

Foma, have you considered the Black Hills in western South Dakota? You could start by touring Wall Drug and then head south to the Badlands. They are beautiful and look like something from another planet.

Then you could head west to the Hills. There are so many things to see there and I'll list just a few so you can see if you'd be interested.

1. Mt. Rushmore

2. Crazy Horse

3. Custer State Park

4. Bear Country

5. Caves and Caverns

6. Deadwood~the historic town and parts of it are pretty historic yet

7. Spearfish Canyon

This may be a bit more outdoorsy then what you're looking for. There are several museums in that area, too if you are interested.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

This is an EXCELLENT idea.

I wanted to know what you considered hot because some people think 80° is super hot. You could pretty much go anywhere north of the Mason/Dixon line and be ok.

Deadwood in S.D. also has alot of casino gambling, also you can go visit Devil's Tower in Northeastern Wyoming, just a short drive away. Beware do if you are planning in the first week of August, you will be there during Sturgis Bike Rally. So there will be alot of people in the area if you don't like huge crowds. I would also suggest going to Yellowstone National Park with also including maybe Glacier in Northern Montana, Colorado has Rocky Mountain National Park, gambling in Blackhack/Central City and Cripple Creek, Pikes Peak, Mt. Evans, Royal Gorge and much much more. If you like shopping a trip to Mall of America is fun, then maybe tie it in with Minnesota or Wisconsin.

I would say the coast of Oregon or Washington, especially Oregon. Very scenic and not really hot and not humid like the east.

Default :d

You could come up here to seattle. Lots of stuff to do outdoors and indoors. You can also take a trip to My Rainier National Park (which i plan to do soon, i've only lived up here a couple years), Olympic National park, Leavenworth ( A bavarian village about 3 hours from Seattle), perhaps go to the San Juan Islands, Lots of Casinos, the list goes on! In town theres the space needle, Alki Beach, Pacific place, Pike place market, Experience music project, science fiction museum, All varieties of shopping (macy's, nordstrom, etc etc) and many more things to do....you can also take a ferry to Victoria or go up to Vancouver, which is easy if you have a passport. You can do it without still I think, but you need to have various forms of identification. Hope that helps! And compared to the rest of the country, the weather is quite enjoyable!(That was supposed to be a in the title, but somehow i messed it up lol ;D)
