Take along a bottle of generic antihistamines. There is a high chance that you will be exposed to a seasonal allergen you never knew about when confronted with new botany, and OTC drugs are crazy expensive in most of the world. I had to pay about 50c a tablet for antihistamines in Kyrgyzstan, while knock-off Benadryl cost about $2 per hundred at Walgreens. They're also useful in an emergency, if you get stung by an insect.

Keeping in mind - that's what OTC in the US might be illegal in other countries. I was just reading something about Americans in Zambia being detained there for a few tablets of cold medication.
