Grand Canyon, AZ. Things in peak summer season, especially cabins in desirable areas, can be booked up a year ahead.

Honolulu, HI. I enjoyed my time there and will likely return at some point, but all of the tourists made things a headache most of the times when I was out and about. The regular full-time residents are bad enough. But the tourists put things over the top.

Pretty much any ski resort in the country on New Years long weekend or Presidents Day long weekend.

Vermont at peak foliage is nuts.

Anywhere beach/ocean in the summer driveable from the high population urban places. Cape Cod and the Islands is jammed. Newport.

Asheville, NC. Every time I've been it's been very crowded with bad traffic. No it isn't LA traffic by any means, but considering you're supposed to be in this scenic mountain area, it's more than enough to keep me away.

Made the mistake of traveling through Gatlinburg, Sevierville, Piegeon Forge and the Smokies between Christmas and New Years. Horrible mistake. Gridlocked roads

I hear Asheville is a great place to invest in rental properties.

Branson in the summer, Las Vegas on New Year's Eve or Superbowl weekend (assuming you're talking about the strip.)

I used to take my little sister to Dollywood back in the late 90s and it was pretty crowded through that area even in the summer. I've not been that way in years but I can imagine it must be awful now. I live in the Triad of NC, we aren't a touristy area except for the furniture markets in High Point. However, traffic can be an absolute nightmare. I'd hate to live in a city where hordes of tourists descend daily.

There are still places in Western NC that don't get as many people, but all bets are off when the leaves are turning.

Almost any well known "tourist town", famous park or recreation area in the USA that is within 2-3 hours driving time from a large metro area is a candidate for over-crowding. Here in Arizona, Sedona is a place to avoid on weekends due to huge number of visitors from nearby Phoenix, especially during the fall or spring with mild temperatures.

It's like what Yogi Berra said, nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded!
