That's called "congestion". When it comes to vehicle congestion, city governments often try to deal with the problem. But with tourism, congestion brings in tax revenues and helps to fill public coffers. Some cities in Europe ARE trying to curb tourist congestion to pacify local residents, but they aren't trying very hard.
Lee County, Florida which includes: Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Naples, Bonita Springs and Estero. Snowbirds AND tourists from October-Easter. They make a normal 10 minute trip turn into 30 minutes or more. Not to mention what happens in our restaurants and hospitals when they are down here.
Nashville - all year round. And then half of the visitors decide they want to move here.
Yes, seriously. We visited the long Veteran's Day weekend in mid-November last year, and I was stunned at how absolutely packed Nashville was. I didn't expect it to be empty by any means, but for November it was insane.

And the reason I'm planning to drive around Yellowstone entirely, opting for the other side of the Beartooth/Absaroka range.
While there aren't any geo-thermal features, there aren't any people either.
Same with the Wind river range, highest in Wyoming.
Zion was packed when I visited in mid-October. Fortunately, we overnighted in Springdale and left our car there for the shuttle. But even the shuttle buses were packed full. Trails were busy and the narrows entrance was a busy playground, with lots of kids and people in the water.
When we left to drive East to Bryce, every parking lot on the way out was filled.

My hometown of Estes Park, Colorado used to be gridlocked in the 1960s. They've since improved traffic flow, but now there are the elk to deal with too. ! Lots of elk... Nearly 20 at McDonald's Happy hour, last trip.
Many popular spots are getting saturated. They had to close Arches NP a few times this year.... Too many people / cars.
