Ha.. That's pretty cool.. Eh, maybe if it's time for a hotel and we're there..

I have no idea why I want to see this, but apparently at a strip mall in Albuquerque is Walter White's tombstone.

The one that fans had put into a cemetery.. Which royally pissed off the people who actually had family buried in said cemetery.. So, they wound up putting it where it now sits.

Not sure we'll make the trip to see the house.. But.. I do think I'll stop at Twisters.. Which is the building that was made into Los Pollos Hermanos.

Apparently.. For years and years in Tulsa, there was a sign pointing the way to Spatula City. Sadly, I believe that is gone now. Weird Al UHF reference for those who are wondering just what in the hell i'm talking about.

Besides the Cadillac Ranch and Slug Bug Ranch there's the Combine Ranch.

I thought Sisemore's RV museum in Amarillo was cool.

Oklahoma has two route 66 museums. The one in Clinton is supposed to be best.

One of our favorite Oklahoma towns is Guthrie. Very cool Victorian architecture. Because of the Land Rush they went from basically population zero to 10,000 in 24 hours.

And you can find the grave of Elmer McCurdy. Quite a story...

You might find some cool ghost towns in OK. This guy has made a bunch of videos about them.

I-40 in Texas Note: If the winds are out of the south, and the preponderance of nearby wind turbines will tell you if it is, put your vehicle's air to recirculate or turn it off, because unless you live on a dairy farm or feedlot or next to a sewage treatment plant you will greatly dislike the aroma (stench) as you approach the Quality Beef Producers' feedlot right off I-40 about ten miles west of Amarillo and just east of Wildorado (exit 49). In fact, you may rue the day.

There are some significant stretches of the old US 66 in Oklahoma. Notable is OK 66 northeast of OKC, where quite a bit of the road is Historic US 66. In Arcadia there are two attractions, Pops, with a mind-boggling assortment (700 varieties) of soda fronted by a 66-foot high neon pop bottle, and the nearby Round Barn.

Yep. Pops and the round barn are on my list. I couldn't remember the name of Pops, but.. That's a certainty.

If ya do a little digging, you can find out when the highway was originally constructed around 1925 or so. Back then it went up to what is now U.S. 84 and went through the small towns of Dilia, Romeroville, and Pecos heading towards Santa Fe. Then dropping down to Santa Fe. My dad told me that one a few decades ago, he worked oil field and road construction in New Mexico for years.

ADD--I'm going to contact a couple long time New Mexico posters and tell them about this thread. Hopefully they'll give some more input here.

Pecos:

Better check the NM Dept. of Health Covid site, to see what restrictions there are. NM was hard-core about requiring visitors to quarantine for 14 days unless they were only driving through and stopping to get gas. I'm not up on the latest news in that regard.

I've checked all states. NM's policy now is

Quote:
NOTICE FOR ALL TRAVELERS: Effective February 11, New Mexico will no longer require self-quarantine for visitors arriving into the state from "high-risk" states. Visitors from anywhere outside of the state will instead by strongly advised to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days and to seek out a COVID-19 test upon their arrival in or return to New Mexico.

I'm vaxed since February. The boy isn't, but think I may have to get him a test before the flight into CA. Probably will get a test no matter what from him, just to be covered.

Given that your trip begins in mid-June, you might be able to get him at least one dose of vaccine before then. A lot of states are beginning to open up vaccination to all adults.

Let's not go there. Sore subject.

Suffice to say I'm one of the few in my family that actually was willing to get vaxxed (Even participating in the clinical trial). His parents weren't.. And that's carried over to him.
