I prefer Priceline to Hotwire but in the end, you get ridiculously good deals on either so my level of complaints, even when the hotel turns out to be less then great, are very, very minimal. For people that are that concerned with where they stay and the quality of the joint, dont use the blind buy sites.

I am currently going through a very bad experience with HOTWIRE. When I made a car reservation through them, their website stated "You may cancel reservation at anytime". My plans have changed and I asked them to change the date of my reservation or cancel it. They refused to do either. Since I am just an average JOE and they are a big company, it is very likely that I will be stuck with paying the rental charges without using the rental car. I will never do business with HOTWIRE again, even if they offer something FREE! I absolutely do not trust them.

Often times if something seems too good to be true, it is. There is a point where you have to say, look I know what I might be stuck with, but is the difference in price worth the inconvenience and worth what I'm going to wind up with? If not, book through Orbitz or a direct hotel site so you know what you're getting.

That's nothing. MUST READ THIS!!! My husband and I were supposed to stay in Mexio for 10 days on a Hotwire package... when we got there they had not booked a hotel for us and the hotel was in an unsafe location. When we called Hotwire to get the problem fixed they left us out to dry in a foreign country!!! All they did was bounce us around in their customer service department and told us our only option was to go back to the airport or check into another hotel on our own as a guest since they could not find our hotel itinerary. They wouldn't even help us change our flight back...I had to call the airport we flew out of to get us home the next day. They care nothing about their customers, I would not use them especially if you are traveling out of the country. If you have a problem they will NOT help you, even if you feel you're in a dangerous situation. We are still trying to get our money back.

The above tips were learned through a first time purchase made through Hotwire on 07/20/2011 Confirmation # 5090426857. Customer service refused to consider that I was given less than what I paid for even though they saw the complaints and lower star ratings on Obitz, Hotel.com and Expedia. I hope my experiences with Hotwire Hot Rates® will help someone else shop smart. Happy Traveling!
