In case you haven't figured it out yet, the success of the human species is not based on intelligence but the ability to breed efficiently. All any species needs to be successful is to breed more viable breeders faster than they die off. In fact, intelligence is likely a hindrance to the success of humanity as it seems the more intelligent they are the less likely they are to breed. I'm guessing since Mr. Pena was busy running over his mistress while driving his wife's car, he might be more of a breeder than a thinker.
