Insane how NYC and LA have almost the same number, while NYC is twice the population.

What's unique about Los Angeles is that it's basically a city & county at the same token.City officials usually go by how many murders L.A county has as an whole because there's a thousand cities right next to each.

Than it's the unincorporated areas that are right in the middle of Los Angeles city that don't get counted in city homicides.Florence Firestone,Westmont,Athens and many more have about 30 homicides a year that go to county homicides instead of city.Im not sure how the borough system works in New York but L.A County is real tricky.

But like i keep saying,Memphis is the murder capital of 2016 with it's highest amount of murders in recorded history.

Plus there's both California & Chicago based gangs in the Memphis area running wild.Mix that in with the already established Memphis drug crews and you see why it's so dangerous out there.

Memphis is having a bad year no doubt but there's a handful of cities with much higher murder rates. Memphis is around 34 per capita while St. Louis, Baltimore, Birmingham, Detroit, and New Orleans are all in the 40-50 per capita range.

Seriously Rochester, NY has 62? I would have never thought it had that many homicides.

Im also surprised by Topeka, KS with 22 and only 127,000 population.

The same with Albuquerque, not that it has that many murders to begin with but there are parts in the city that are county. Some of the South Valley in Albuquerque which has a reputation for crime and gangs sits in county territory and not city of Albuquerque territory so the few murders there are factored into the county stats.
