Yes it is. I accidentally clicked across it at what I thought was the halfway point, otherwise I would have kept clicking.

But I was wrong. I can't believe I stuck with it for another dreadful hour and a half because it was a terrible production. Tons of redundancy, where the same people said the exact same thing at least twice, slow motion segments to drag out the clock, leading us along as if "the real killer" would be revealed in some sudden twist, but no. The "reporter" (and I'm being generous calling her that) overacted her role every time she was on camera. Just awful.

Then there's the fact that they didn't really explain the final DNA evidence at all, we just see the sheriff saying that "it excluded everyone who has ever been a suspect in the case" (or words to that effect) except one-Gene Leroy Hart. But that leave a whole lot open-ended, because they only mention one other suspect.

20/20 reached new depths with this one. This easily could have been done in one hour. They most likely had the right guy all along

"I heard it forever when I was growing up, oh they just looked at one person. Really? I can show you documentation of 139 people OSBI interview and looked at as a possible suspect in this. People don't want to hear that, or they've never heard that,” said Reed.
https://www.news9.com/story/6279dba0...5-years-later-

He's right, I've never heard that.

So did they also run DNA on some of those 139 people? I don't think they ever mentioned any but 2 possible suspects in the whole show. So the DNA rules out all suspects except Hart he says, but does it rule out most other people of Cherokee descent? Really some details would have been most helpful. They could have omitted one of the many redundant or slow motion segments and given us real information.

Also from that article:Reed says all the DNA from the scene matched the three girls and Hart.

Well that isn't what he said on the 20/20 show. He never said it was a "match" which in my way of thinking means it positively identified Hart. It just didn't rule him out.

They both can't be right, so which shoddy journalism is wrong and which is right?

IMO...I think these TV crime shows Dateline, 20/20, 48 Hours do it the way they do is primarily for entertainment value not for factual reporting.
It's all about the drama/ratings they can stir up.

Exactly. It's not journalism it's fluffy trash like GMA and all of its clones. Not surprisingly Deborah Roberts, who anchored the show, has also contributed to GMA. Honestly her segments on this show were some of the worst, most fakey, pretentious efforts at journalism I've ever seen. Am I being too nice?

Dateline has always been bad but there was a time when 20/20 seemed like a halfway decent show.
Or maybe I'm just confusing it with 60 minutes. At any rate i won't be watching it again, especially after seeing what Wiki says: Since 2019, it has shifted to a two-hour format highlighting true crime stories and celebrity scandals rather than the traditional investigative journalism associated with newsmagazines, following the same programming direction as same-night competitor Dateline NBC.
