Hi everyone. I'm looking for any information about the Kon Tiki on Broadway. Specifically what I'd LOVE to find are some old photos of the place. As a regular patron and supporter of this pretty unique and historic restaurant I've been surprised at how little 'vintage' stuff I can dig up. Everyone I've spoken to over the years fondly remembers the KT (frequent response: "Is that place still there?") but I've come up empty on any old images of the place.

If you have any information, photos, or recollections of the Kon Tiki (particularly from 'back in the day') and are willing to share I'd be very happy to hear or see them.

I'd like to add some historical info on the Kon Tiki web site and will gladly credit anyone who can contribute.

Mahalo!

back in college in the early 80s, we went to happy hour there...it was very, very popular with that crowd then....

you may want to join the "Vanishing Tucson" forum at Yahoo Groups and ask there....it's a very busy group of good people with lots of recollections....you'll have to register, but it's free and anonymous

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vanishingtucson/

and, gotta ask, have you checked with the employees/management at Kon Tiki itself??!!!!..(it IS still open, right?)

Hi azdr. Thanks for the link. I've checked with the staff on a regular basis. I'm very 'close' with them all and the elusive photographs of the Kon Tiki 'back in the day' remain, well, elusive.

And yes indeed, they are still very much open!

What we love about Kon Tiki is it pretty much (ignore those flat screen tv's behind the bar!) looks exactly as it did when it first opened in '63. Some things (fortunately) never change!

Now, where are those olde-tyme photos???

OMG, I iinstantly got a pounding headache in my flashback of Kon Tiki! So surreal, I could have sworn I just saw it in a movie or visited it in Hawaii until I went to the website and sure 'nuf... that's the place! I had totally forgotten about it - guess I had too many Happy Hour umbrella drinks to have any clear recollections of it. I know you are looking for photographs, but fortunately there are none in this instance- LOL!

I REALLY can't believe it is still open, but glad there is an oasis in the desert to visit when I come out. We'll be sure to stop in, with kids in tow this time! Thanks!

brooks, by all means bring the kids! Kon Tiki has a new kids menu with some cool activities to keep the little 'uns amused. I'm biased, 'cos I designed and drew it
