Recently began looking online at homes in the Tucson area after having looked in the Scottsdale area. My impression is that real estate taxes are roughly 75% higher in Tucson for the same type of home on a similar plot of land. Is this roughly accurate and if so am I missing something in either statistic such as extra fees or taxes that would tend to even the two out? If not, can anyone supply a reason that the taxes are so much higher in Tucson? Thanks.

Just found this so you no longer have to rely on my observation. Kiplingers states that the real estate taxes in Tucson per $100,000 of house value are about
twice Scottsdale which is even more of a disparity than the 75% I originally ballparked!

Ok, after researching taxes per locale this a.m. (which is what I should of done before I posted above), you are exactly right. Honestly, this shocked me. In some locations like our favorite place, Dove Mountain, the property taxes are almost 2x that of the Phoenix area. With the massive increase in housing prices down in Tucson over the last 2 years, this really begins to call into question how much more "affordable" Tucson is then Phoenix. At any rate, you are right. My apologies.

Wow. Rare to find someone online admitting they may have been wrong. I was as surprised as you are since I haven't seen any discussion of this.

Tucson has the best potholes west of the Mississippi. You’d need to visit NJ to find deeper ones on major roadways.

Tucson property taxes are indeed significantly higher than similar Phoenix/Scottsdale properties. And yes, it defies explanation when one compares the crappy roads in Tucson to much better roads in Phoenix. Property and gas taxes flow from Tucson to Phoenix, but do not return proportionately in services or road quality.

It usually indicates politicians and unions padding their pockets. At least that’s what’s happening in Ca. Sounds like some forensic audits are in order.
