buying a house in tucson (Sahuarita, Vail: how much, established neighborhood, school districts)

hi all,

i'm looking for a house in tucson, but i'm not familiar with the neighborhoods. the only thing i've heard is to stay away from 'south tucson', the area bordered by 12th ave on the west, 26th st on the north, 2nd ave on the east and 40th st on the south.

i've visited sahuarita but it's a little too far to the airport & to downtown. any good suggestions for some decent neighborhoods?

what we're looking for is (at this point, we're not concerned about school districts since we don't have kids):

a. a house that has some distance from neighbors (basically, the lot that the house sits on could be a good size, maybe 1 acre)

b. a short commute to the airport

c. some place where we could build a pole barn or building structure so that my husband can set up his shop to build customized auto racing parts.

Acre or more lots are hard to find in Tucson unless your looking for the foothills but then you have to be prepared to spend mucho dinero.

I recommend searching for property in Vail, AZ. They have some really nice established neighborhoods with one acre lots, horse property and located close to the Interstate-10 so you have quick access to the airport and downtown.

It depends on how much you want to spend. If Sahuarita is too far for you, then Vail may be approaching your distance limit also (zip code 85747). I was going to suggest something south of I-10 on Houghton Road but that is also probably too far.

You can also look out Southwest, there is plenty of property out there, it's a short commute and it's reasonably priced.

I know there are a few houses on farmbelt Dr and farmstead Dr. that are newer and have 1/2 acre. They meet your criteria but are pretty spendy.
