Is the UA "oopsie!" having any noticeable effect on Tucson homes prices? Thanks.

None until they start cutting staff. And that might be starting to happen.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye open for layoffs later this year.

As with most of Tucson's real estate market, even if the U of A cuts staff it will probably only affect a few neighborhoods. Don't think I've ever bumped into anyone on the U of A's payroll in NW Tucson. The U of A could dramatically slash a ton of jobs and real estate prices would stay the same in in my neighborhood. But the likely outcome is that the U of A continues with their hiring freeze and encourages long time employees to retire.

What would affect the market is if the U of A decided to sell off their farm to a developer for a tidy sum. All those acres of land would make for a nice housing development.

On one hand, I feel bad hoping to cash in on others' misfortune but having experienced layoffs myself, I think of it as recycling and renewing. like crop rotation just like farms. Tucson is probably too hot for me anyway. I currently live in 70 miles NW of PHX where we have stretches of 110F during the summer. I'm attracted to the small artisan homes in the Blenman-Elm district but maybe not enough to withstand the heat. Thanks for the replies.

I've lived in both places extensively, Tucson heat is a lot more tolerable than Phoenix heat. Mornings are still pleasant enough in the summer that you can be hiking or walking until about 10 AM in Tucson, evenings on the patio are easy to pull off all summer.

Thanks, this sounds like something I need to check out for myself. I remember being told ages ago how PHX was a "dry heat" and not as oppressive. 2022 was oppressive.
