Zyrtec used to be prescription only. Now you can buy the generic for a fraction of the cost and it is available without a prescription. It is for indoor and outdoor allergies. It may take a little while to notice a difference, but it works for me. There is also an over the counter homeopathic nasal spray that helps keep the nasal passages congestion free and does not burn. It is made by Similisan. Ask your pharmacist. I use both on a daily basis and have had a lot less problems. No medicine head affects or drowsiness. But I do have to use the Zyrtec daily to keep sinus problems down to a minimum. It's also one pill every 24 hours which sure beats others that you take every 4 hours. And nothing else is designed to help both indoor and outdoor allergies. It is the best thing I have ever used and I have tried them all.

I did get some free samples of Veramyst once and that seemed to work sort of, kind of, some of the time. Maybe. :/
Have you tried the nettipot? It clears out your sinuses. Not the end all cure all, but will help a ton.

It all depends on what you are allergic to. For myself, I am allergic to mold and must so here in Illinois my allergies are horrible. When we got to Tucson I wasn't off the plane for an hour and my sinuses cleared up The whole time there my sinuses were clear. I didn't need to use my allergy medication either while I was there. I haven't experienced that since I was in my teens. The same thing always hapopened when I in Phoenix.

Tucson has a very loow mold count as compared to most of the rest of the country. But I have heard from many people that they have had the same or worse allergic reactions in Tucson.

My son's allergies are mostly pollen. When the Palo Verde and the Mesquite bloom, there is yellow pollen all over everything, and he is so unbearably miserable. The pharmacist at Safeway sold us generic Loratidine 10 mg which he said was exactly the same as whatever his Rx was for. It's a once-24-hour med, and it's his miracle cure. It was about 1/10th the cost of the Rx. That was about 5 years ago, and we've been using it ever since.

I just Googled it, and Loratidine is Claritan-D. It works like a charm for him, so we'll keep getting it.

Funny story about this. I bought one some time ago at the urging of a doctor friend and had high hopes. I still do, actually.

Last night, I was feeling really crummy (and today, I'm sick - what joy!). My nose was dripping, my throat was sore, I couldn't stop sneezing; woe is me. I popped a few Airborne's and decided to drag out the netti pot to give it a shot. I haven't used it in a long time, so I rinsed it out really well and loaded it up.

I no sooner drained the thing and rinsed the snot-dribblings out of the sink than I started sneezing. We'll guesstimate that this was around 8:30. I sneezed and sneezed and sneezed, the hardest, meanest, nastiest sneezes one right after the other until about 11:00. My back hurts, I sneezed so hard - completely debilatating, crippling sneezes. I was honestly worried I was going to pee myself from the force.

It was then I got to thinking that every time I've ever used it, I sneeze like this. No wonder it was packed away. When I take showers, I sneeze. It rains, my allergies kick up and I sneeze for the next few days.

I think I might be allergic to something in the water out here -- which makes jamming the water out here up my nose a big, bad idea!

Also, Claritin doesn't do anything for me. More 's

It might not be the pot. I bet it's just the water. Which is so terrible and ironic...

Either way, enough whining. I feel better today --Thanks everyone!
