I am considering purchasing a home near 51st and Lewis, (very close to Lewis, but inbetween Lewis & Peoria). I have doubts only due to the crime in the 61st & Peoria area.

Any help from Tulsans in this area, or knowledgable of this area would be appreciated.

You can go to the tulsa police web site, they have a crime map and you can view all the crime for specific areas in tulsa.

I think you will find the crime in the 61st and Peoria area is centered around the subsidized housing apartments there and is very local. If you are talking between 61st and 51st, and Lewis and Peoria, I think you would be very safe. In fact, that is one of the few areas in Tulsa that I think would be really nice to live in. It is close to Brookside, Southern Hills, and the expressway.

My daughter used to take guitar lessons from Dick Gordon in that area (his house was removed by the I-44 expansion). I think he moved a bit further south in the same area. Dick is about 85 years old and has played with many of the great performers in history, from Roy Acuff to Jimi Hendrix.

I would think that you should be perfectly fine. I grew up in a house around 56th and Yorktown. I would suggest staying closer to 51st than 61st and the closer to Lewis the better in general...

Seems fine to me. I was surprised how nice the area is around Yale & I-244 you can find alot of smaller homes there and the neighborhood is not bad at all. (This is the area around where the Library is)
