There are only a few liquor stores I like....that carry a really decent selection of wines and a nice variety of single malts scotches.

My favorite is Parkhills at the SE corner of 51st and Lewis. the one I mentioned above (NE corner of 91st and Memorial) is really good, B&B on Mingo north of 71st (west side of street in front of Sam's), a "Wine and Spirit" at the rear of Ranch Acres Shopping Center (SE corner of 31st and Harvard), and my least favorite of the "good" ones is on the north side of Admiral (I forget it's name) between Memorial and Sheridan.

Makes me wonder why in the world we even considered a move to New Mexico...will find out tomorrow if we were "accepted" or "rejected" for the job.... oh yeah...it was the "income" thing. ugh!

I don't want to leave!!!!

Best of luck in Bixby...I'm sure it will entail some adjustments, but if you keep an open mind it should be pretty easy to like! Welcome!

LOL, yes I am from Georgia at the moment... but something most don't realize... even though we are the "Peach State" here, it's one of the Carolina's that grows more peaches (I'm always confusing the Carolina's)... our local peaches are nothing to brag about -- go figure!

The Sweet Corn Festival sounds wonderful! I adore sweet corn! I hope we're there in time to get some fresh corn!

I will be referring to this post for the closest (nice) liquor store probably shortly after we arrive LOL I will need a nice bottle of wine to christen the house, no? hehehe

I have a very open mind... as a matter of fact, I can barely stand it I'm so excited!! Adjustments will come, and I hope that in no time I'm in my new 'home state'!

The one on Admiral is called Jubilee and it is good, if not a little seedy. I go there to buy most of my stuff, except for Marshall beer, which they don't carry enough of.

It also has the distinction of being on several crime shows showing two ladies that worked there beating a would-be robber off with a bottle of booze.

OK, I'm thinking with a distinction like that, I might have to go just to say I've been there

It is really weird how you are moving and I have just arrived. Yet you want to stay and I would go back to Washington in a heartbeat. Life is weird to say the least. I think there is something to be learned from each place that we live. We also moved here because of a job transfer. I am starting to get used to it but it will take time. I just don't feel like an Okie. I feel really left out and lonely here. I guess I have been in the PNW for so long that I have become a west coast person and honestly I don't know if that will ever change.

I have a friend that lives in New Mexico and he loves it. He used to live in Southern Cal and he left the rat-race. Maybe you will like it a lot. And maybe I will grow to love it here.

I have to say that the weather is getting so much better. I didn't like the high temps at all.

Anyway,,, good luck to all of you in your moves. I know one thing. If one wants to move from a place than there is a greater tendency to enjoy the move but if you drag your feet and you don't want to move it is harder. We all need to let go of things that are temporary and there are NO guarantees in this life. To have a job, income and roof over our heads is a true blessing no matter where we liive...

How does an okie feel?

Sorry to hear you are not feeling happy. It is natural to feel strange when a person first moves to a new environment. Try going from Los Angeles to a small town in KS. I loved KS, but it was the most vanilla experience I have ever had. Nothing but nice white people. I was used to seeing every nation, race, religion, and creed, in the world.

There are a lot of good people here in Oklahoma, and not all are born and raised here. Some are west coast, east coast, some are TX, some from the north, just all sorts of people. Now they live in Oklahoma, so don't feel like you are alone because you are not born and raised here. Good luck with your move.

Oh, alright. I'll just leave that one alone.

Raechel, maybe you have changed a lot since you left Omaha and lived in other areas for so long. Honestly, I don't think northeastern OK is that different from Neb. I know you're trying, but the fact that you didn't really want to move has a lot to do with this. I'm still wishing you luck and hope you start enjoying your new area.

Raechel, I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but now that you have articulated your desire to return to the PNW, God's sense of humor is going to express itself.

You have teen-aged boys......in not so many years they will be men, and (hopefully) be getting married. This will be their home, where their friends are....they guys they played sports with, double dated with, went to church with. And I don't know if you noticed, but Oklahoma can produce extraordinarily lovely women (check out how many have become Miss America)......not only are they lovely, they are NICE. Just the kind of woman you would want your son to marry.

So here in a very few short years your grandkids will be in Tulsa and Bixby and Union and Jenks. And unless I miss my guess, just when you have resigned yourself to living in Tulsa for the long term, an opportunity to move back to the PNW will happen and you will have to make a decision......PNW vs grandkids.

Doesn't God have an exquisite sense of humor?

I'm so excited! I just want to get out there already!

So soon I will be in Bixby, OK! I can't believe it!

So anyone out there familiar with Bixby? Any suggestions for a 'newbie' to the area? Your favorite shopping areas... parks... activities for kids... restaurants?

I'd love to hear as much about it as I can (considering darlin' husband is there, he's working and just not giving me as much information as I'm craving! LOL)

Pamela... soon to be living in OK!
Please accept my heartfelt welcome to this part of the world. Honestly I think you will like it here. I think the people here will bowl you over with their kindness. The majority of people here are friendly and welcoming. The fresh produce in Bixby is great. As for the liquor store I also prefer Parkhill at 51st and Lewis if you are a wine connisuer (SP?) as I am they have a great selection. Shopping centers abound there is Woodland Hills, Promenade and many other shopping areas everything that suits your needs. Again welcome and I do hope you find this a great city and when you have time after you are settled you might take a day or two and explore the city.
