I don't have cable of any kind and like it that way.... but.... If the networks don't do something about their programing they'll go the way of news papers!

Even their news is no longer really news....
There still some decent programming on the networks although it has definitely gone downhill in the past decade. NBC, CBS, and ABC have nothing worth watching but FOX and the CW still have some entertaining shows. I think I like those two networks because they have more niche programming like the cable channels. NBC, CBS, and ABC are still programming to the masses which tends to be dumb programming. It's true what they say. By trying to please everyone you end up not pleasing anyone at all.
Glad to see I'm not the only one turned off by all this dumbed down programming. I am glad that I grew up in the 80s when there was TV worth watching. Makes me wonder where are all those producers who made those classics now? If they've passed away may they rest in peace. If they haven't they need to make a comeback. Or just let network TV die. Cable has made some excellent programming the last few years. Especially FX
Cable is still pretty expensive and I don't think everyone is ready to switch over to it. I think once it's affordable to EVERYONE then network TV will go away. Even the most basic packages are too much for those on like a fixed income.
I lived in an area for quite awhile that didn't have cable. It was suppose to be "temporary" so I didn't get a dish. It was pretty pathetic. When I moved to an area with cable in 2005 I finally signed up. I can't imagine doing without cable, although a lot of stuff can now be watched on the internet. While I've had cable for the past 6 years the networks have only become a lot worse.
The only good thing I can say is there are less soaps during the day. When I was pregnant with my daughter I had to stay home and all I can say is I read a lot of books. I could only take those soaps for so long before I thought I was losing my mind. I don't know if the alternatives are that much better, though!
When the lead story on the news is Ashton Kutcher is replacing Charlie Sheen as the lead for Two and a Half Men, that is pretty sad.
