Sigh.

Did you know that other TV shows have dialogue mostly in English?

If they want American viewers.

A sentence or two, no problem. See Breaking Bad, even in Mexico. A little goes a long way.

Entire conversations? Ratings poison, snooze.

Here's a hint: if your audience has to read captions, you will lose your audience.

And, it's gone.

Something tells me that The Bridge is not gone because of the Spanish dialog.

Could be.

But I've never seen any other TV show that used it to such an extent that it was necessary to read the captions to follow major plot developments. And I doubt we'll ever see this mistake here again.

I regularly watch foreign language films, so the subtitles didn't bother me. Season 2's plot just didn't hold my interest.

Especially if your audience can't read.

I can overlook captions if they aren't the majority of the program and are actually readable. Sometimes they are too small or light on a light background or vice versa. At least make them readable!

I won't bother watching a show that uses subtitles.

I like to lay on the couch and watch TV.....without my glasses on.

If there are subtitles, I have to sit up and put my glasses on to read them......PIA.

So, I won't even get involved with a program that uses them all of the time.

I hate notes too! I was watching season 1 of Orange is the New Black and luckily I waited for the DVD because I had to hit pause twice and sit up (I watch in bed) to read the notes between the security guard and inmate. Actually the first time I didn't have the remote handy so I had to rewind then pause. What a pain!
