I guess I'm living in a cave. I had NO idea anything was pre-screened or otherwise known ahead of time. I knew about the votes~~that's pretty obvious, but I guess I thought it was more free flow like regualr Tribal Councils...
I thought the jury speeches were off the cuff too.

A lot of it I already knew but I had no idea that each castaway is checked by medical before and after every challenge. I also had no idea that they aren't allowed to talk to each other when transporting between camp and a challenge or tribal council, though it make sense. Why else do we see them suddenly congratulating the challenge winner when they get back to camp? Or seemingly waiting until back at camp to discuss what happened at tribal.
They repeat sites a lot to save on money and some governments are more friendly to film crews than others. They filmed on the Philippines for the past 4 seasons! I wonder if the massive typhoon that hit last fall had anything to do with them changing locations this time.
2 contestants are out for medical reasons 48 hours before filming even began! Most likely it is 2 because of the blood vs water twist. (Before filming if a loved one must be evacuated, I'm guessing that means the other part of the duo must go too.) No other details were given but Probst said the show is still going on even though there will now be 18 contestants instead of 20 and the number of men and women are now uneven. You can listen to the interview along with a pic of the cast here.
Thanks ischyros I figured they would have some backups prior to filming. That old dude kind of favors Jimmy Johnson.
They do usually have backups but maybe less than 48 hours before they start filming it's too late to get the backups in. I thought the same thing about that guy looking just like Jimmy Johnson!

Birds of a feather flock together.
Shoot if I was on that backup list I'd have my bags by the door until after the season had wrapped.

I know on The Amazing Race, when Bopper couldn't play at the last minute, they had Mallory (and her dad) on speed-dial to fill in for Bopper, and she did. I kind of thought they brought a couple of backups just in case, and if they weren't needed, kept them on for the Dream Team.
That guy does look like Jimmy Johnson. But two of the others look like past players, too, so maybe it's that there have been so many players, new ones start to look familiar...
Oh lord, just heard the "Twinnies" (natalie and nadiya) from the amazing race will be on this upcoming season of survivor... going to be interesting to see how people react to them.
