The best lesson I have taken from these shows is...

That meat has to rest before being carved.
  • Also, how to cook a great steak and salmon...
  • Searing and then cooking.
  • And letting it cook 5 minutes one side and then a single flip.
  • Plenty of seasoning.

What I have learned is that in the British version of Hell's Kitchen Gordon Ramsey is a heckofalot nicer. In fact, it seems that all British cooking competition shows are a Sunday school outing compared to their U.S. contemporaries.
