Personally I think this is the start of a slow process towards the series finale, I think seasons 14 and 15 are the end of the show and things will be wrapped up over the next two years. It's already been reported that David McCallum (Ducky) will likely leave when his contract expires at the end of season 14 (next year).

Here's how I see it: Fornell will probably be medically retired or otherwise restricted to desk work as a result of his recent shooting, Gibbs will gradually make peace with the world and move towards retirement, and McGee will become team leader.
David McCallum is 82. He has said he's getting a little too old for weekly, episodic television. Plus, there's a built in replacement in Jimmy, who's been on board for a few years, now. That would be a logical happening due to McCallum's age. I don't think that would portend the end of the show.

NCIS is Gibbs and Abby. They could stock the rest of the team with whatever decent television actors happen to be looking for a job that year, and it'll still be NCIS.

Wow he is that old? Makes sense as a kid watched him in the Man from U.N.C.L.E

I agree about Kate and Ziva. Hard to know, a new person could make other existing characters get developed further. It's worth watching compared to so much junk on tv.

Michael Weatherly's new show, Bull, will air right after NCIS in the fall.

NCIS just signed Wilmar Valderrama as a new agent. He is supposed to be an undercover agent that has come back to be a regular agent.

While I wish Weatherly the best of luck with his new show I miss him. I don't care for either of the two new characters.

So far Wilmar Valderrama is kind of a disappointment.

I liked him better as Fez years ago.
