Basically if you watch shows like Game of Thrones, Girls, Shameless, Spartacus, or How to get Away with Murder, there is sex all over the place!
But I feel that a lot of times, it doesn't even need to be there, like they are just showing it that they can, just to get ratings, and it comes off as gratuitous. Especially Game of Thrones and How to Get Away with Murder.
One thing in particular I noticed, is that some shows will concentrate more on lesbian or gay sex more so, like they are trying to push an agenda there. How to Get Away with Murder, I think has had a gay sexual foreplay scene, in every episode so far, but only halfway through the first season. I mean talk about giving the impression that the the showmakers are one sided.
Still every episode so far is a lot, if I am counting correct. So I feel there is a lot of sexual agenda or ratings pushing going on and it sticks out like a sore thumb on TV, instead of actually working in the shows' favor all the time. But what do you think?
If they show gay people having sex, they are pushing an agenda? So far years when it was only straight people having sex, they were pushing a straight agenda? How is one agenda better than the other?
Sex/nudity in film/tv has almost always been gratuitous. It is very rare the nudity advances the plot in anyway. That said, OP picked 4 of the most "envelope pushing" shows. Earlier this morning I watched an episode of "Suits" and an episode of "Splitting up Together". No nudity in either and just a makeout session in the latter which did advance the plot.
Point is, there is sex and nudity in a lot of shows but it isnt everywhere. Find something you like that doesnt have it. "GOT" and "Shameless" are definitely not for you.
Didnt used to be like that..... Focusing on breasts,etc... I DONT WANNA SEE THAT!!
Didnt used to be like that, when? 1955? Broadcast tv has always had sex scenes and they do today. Premium cable has always had nudity......and they do today.

I think when you have an over-abundance of something, than it feels like pushing an agenda, like that show.
One show that shows too much female nudity in my opinion is Dexter. In that show, there is always breasts in a lot of episodes it seems. But no male nudity ever it seems, so that would be pushing an agenda in the opposite direction.
Cable TV has always used it as a way to differentiate themselves from free OTA TV. In Europe its not uncommon on OTA TV but not as much as on cable here. As they say "sex sells". There is aqlways a warning about what program contains at the beginning, if it bothers you switch the channel.
