Tell that to all the actresses and actors and porn stars that got STD's over the years for your enjoyment of their nudity and sex. I also think it harms us as a society. This is stuff that the barbarians would indulge in, not a civilized society that is supposed to have respect for themselves and others.

Well in that case I feel that the actors should just pretend to have sex and not actually have it. I mean why do porn stars actually have to have it and take that risk, instead of just faking it like they do on shows like Game of Thrones.

Then they wouldn't be porn stars.

I don't really mind the gratuitous sex scenes in TV dramas; especially if you've been warned if its content beforehand - as a lot of shows do these days.

I can probably do without all the violence, but I guess its all down to context. In Game of Thrones, you would expect a lot of both given the historical context. But then you wouldn't really expect to see gruesome deaths in something like "The L Word".

Of course, if you're not expecting to see either then it can be quite a surprise when you do see it; and it can make for uncomfortable viewing if you have your parents round for the evening!

But the sex scenes I can put up with (other than rape or forced); more so lesbian sex scenes because that can sometimes re-kindle my interest in a rather turgid storyline.

You can have too much of a good thing before the novelty wears off, and all of sudden such sex and/or violence becomes rather boring, and many a time I have reached out for the FF button on my remote to move things along.

And that's what they do. Actors in love scenes don't actually have sex. It's acting. They use prosthetics and padding so that generally no one's private parts touch anyone else. Actors have strict contracts about what they will allow and what they won't.

The appeal of porn is that the performers are actually doing it, so the guidelines are completely different.

Er, what? We're talking TV here not porno. It's all fake. No one is getting an STD making a TV show nor from nudity.

Zero problems with it. In fact, I think we need more positive views on sexuality. I don't think they are pushing an agenda... LGBTQ people exist in this world and they are just reflecting on reality.

If we were to suppress and portray a OP's or anyone groups' definition of "wholesome" that in of itself could be viewed as "pushing an agenda". Showing straight people having sex and ignoring gay sex on purpose is also an agenda.

I also believe that everyone has the right to tune to another station or watch a different program. So OP, simply switch channels.

Nitpick: It depends on exactly what time period you're talking about, but in general the so-called "barbarians" actually had much stricter codes of personal honor and behavior than the so-called "civilized" societies. Most of the real decadence and depravity was happening in the cities among the elite, not amongst the barbarians.
