I've almost finished the 1st season of Melrose Place (no spoilers please), and I'm amazed by how brilliant the music is.
Obviously the opening theme is iconic, but the music throughout each episode is even better.
I've never seen a TV series with anywhere near this level of musical perfection that captures the mood of every scene so flawlessly.

Its strange that Beverly Hills 90210 did not have great music, very bland music throughout each episode, because I thought these shows had the same creator, but I guess they had a different music department.
The difference in quality is like night and day.

I am watching "Billions" on amazon prime/Paramount Plus (though amazon on a special deal -- bingeing everything while I can!!) and it has GREAT music in just about every episode. A lot of the songs I recognize without remembering the artists.

Here's a link with at least some of the music: https://music.apple.com/sk/playlist/....u-751bfWkMNkN .

The thing I like about Melrose Place music, is its all 90s instrumental rock - and not just any, literally the best I've ever heard.
I really hate tv series that have songs with lyrics in them.
Its hard enough choosing the perfect music for each scene, so when they use a singer as well, it creates another variable of failure.

Um, OK, but you just asked for TV series with "the best music." I think Billions is in that category -- for me at least! The songs aren't played long enough to obsess on hearing the lyrics (some songs ARE instrumentals), at least I never have -- I just enjoy them!

Its alright, I'm not referring to Billions, just speaking generally and could have added this into my first post but didn't want the word "edited" on my post (if enough time had expired to warrant it).
For all I know Billions could be the best music ever made to millions and millions of people.

Are you talking about original music for the show? The score? Or pre-existing songs that are put into episodes?

All music, original or not, score and pre-existing songs, everything you hear.
Quality and choice of music, makes no difference where it came from.

Miami Vice had the best music for the 80's.

Absolutely agree with you. I’d also nominate Northern Exposure as having the most eclectic playlist as a series. I also thought The Sopranos really matched the music to the scene.
