That was an excellent show last night. I wasn't expecting that. I liked Bosco though, wish he would have lived. I think he and Jane would have worked well together after putting their differences aside. Oh well. Maybe they'll do a soap opera thing and Bosco isn't really dead but they need Red John to think he is.

Wow, sad show. Lots of main characters gone. I wonder whats next?

You could tell that Jayne wasnt comforted by Amazing Grace. Don't think feels saved, but still lost?

Jayne and Red John seem to be in a weird "relationship" now. The one woman basically told him she did it because Red John wants him back on the case. He seemed pretty disturbed by that, but I think that's largely because it's true. Red John did give him what he wants and while they're singing he slinks off to pursue that. Essentially doing what the killer wanted.

I must admit there's something a bit unnerving about that and even if it doesn't exactly show that he's "lost" it is a tad creepy. And it's a bit like Iniego Montoya in Princess Bride. I mean what does he do when he "gets" Red John? Will he have enough else in his life it won't matter or is he going to stay too aloof to the group for those connections to really matter? While they were toasting Bosco he did clearly seem to be apart from them and not entirely one of them.

Anyway I hope the Red John element doesn't overwhelm the show too much.

Excellent eppie! I too was sad that Boscoe died. I think he and Jane were a good "pair" also. So not a one of those cops escorting what'shername looked at the cop who was walking the other way?

Well he promised Bosco he would kill Red John so I expect that's what he plans to do whether he will or not when he's in the moment who knows. Planning to though I think tells us that he doesn't feel he has a life or future or at least certainly isn't going to worry about it till his mission of getting Red John is done. Perhaps the long term story arc will be that this long search working with the same people that he has developed feelings for will reveal to him at the final moment that he can be redeemed.

I was a little disappointed in Jayne (Jane?) when he missed that the woman was going to die. I thought it was pretty obvious during their interview that she was somehow programmed or knew she was going to die. I thought - they better do a really really thorough body search put her on serious suicide watch. I didn't really expect the immediate killing but I knew RJ had let her know she needed to die if caught, that she would never give up RJ - that whole no life without death comment and her whole demeanor. I think it was a little unbelievable that we are expected to believe Jane see so many things with no clues that others don't but he missed this. I suppose he was a bit in shock about some of the things she said but still.

I'm watching that episode now...

He's thinking more about getting the information out of Bosco (even though it's probably already available as raw data in his files) than the possibility that the stress of talking to him might be deleterious to Bosco's heath.

So you think maybe Jane fooled around with Bosco's IV again and brought him out of his induced coma to talk to him? So maybe Jane is why Bosco died? Awwww.

Default Why Does The Mentalist Lies To CBI?

Is there an appeal of a "Ferris Bueller" in how manipulative and deceitful that the consultant, Patrick Jane, is?

I can understand it if Lisbon keeps ignoring his hunches and theories, seeing how she will take the more plausible lead in an investigation because of limited manpower, and so Patrick Jane doesn't reveal what he is up to because he doesn't want Lisbon to stop his pursuit in the investigation.... but that is not always the case. He seems to be carrying the "lying habit" outside the realm of just trying to solve a case.

I also noticed that there is a note of cyncalism in how he seems to look at almost every suspect in the case as attributing this as a character for the main "hero" of the show. There just seems to be a growing lack of respect, as I am beginning to wonder if the writers were intended to show his impatience of not going after Red John at that moment as the source for his anonymosity hidden behind that cool veneer.

Since Lisbon is now the head of CBI, one would think she would figure out a way to have Patrick Jane covered for his pursuits because there had been several close calls when he could have been killed, having no back up.

The last show that was aired ( December 11, 2009 ) shows some realism as two CBI agents had back up from the police department in their pursuits.

Why can't Lisbon provide the back up for Patrick Jane's pursuits so he would not have to lie all the time?

I'm surprise that anyone in authority would allow Patrick Jane on the Red John case because he had stated his full intention of killing Red John for revenge. That would make CBI and the Police Department an accomplice in providing him the information and the means to achieve his goal.

Seems to me that Patrick Jane is in need of a humbling episode where CBI takes on a monster of a seriel killer that is more terrifying than Red John because he tortures his victims just to lift Patrick Janes sights higher than having a personal vendetta against Red John: putting away dangerous criminals so that others do not incur loss he had suffered.

As it is, if I was the head of CBI, Patrick Jane would be put on notice because if he gets his revenge on Red John, I would be charged as an accomplice. I would insist that he work as a member of the team without lying to any member of the team in the pursuit of any investigation.

As head of CBI, Lisbon is responsible for all the lives under her. Remember, the former head of CBI left after losing agents under his charge. So she has to start feeling the weight of command eventually and the need to reign in the "Ferris Bueller" of Patrick Jane and call in the cast of Criminal Minds to go after Red John before Patrick Jane gets him.

They have done cross-overs on C.B.S. They need to do that with the Mentalist. Makes me wonder how the writers of the two respective series can work this cross over of Criminal Minds and the Mentalist. Makes me wonder in order to keep the series on its toes, CBS would do cross overs with all three of the CSI shows with the Mentalist as well. The writers got their raises. Time they show their stuff.

As it is, the Mentalist is kinda losing its appeal when Patrick Janes lies for other reasons than to pursue an avenue in an investigation to close the case quickly to get back on seeking after Red John.

Would anyone have a partner you cannot trust? Can anyone have a team you can count on if one of them lies to another?

I can understand his need to close the case quickly in pursuing a lead and thus lying to prevent anyone from stopping him, but to lie in other matters is to become unreliable to have around.
