The pilot should have been a two hour movie to establish the main characters better. It was too rushed and the team agreed to fast especially the Kono chick who went undercover.

No TV show is worth recording. I don't intend on purchasing a DVR. I choose the "best" of what is available that night and adapt.

Trust me, a DVR will enable you to keep up with two things at once. It's a cool product. I never thought I would use one, but now I can't do without it.

As for the show, I think it has legs. You really can't make a hard decision after only one show. It's also unfair to compare it to the original. I say give it a chance.

I liked it. But I am an Alex O'Loughlin fan from his Moonlight days...and I also liked "Sun" from his Lost days. I think the young woman who's the surfer/police cadet is a bit over the top (like she'd really deck someone in the jaw for surfing too close to her) but overall I thought it had some charm. We shall see if the third time is the charm for poor Alex and CBS...they cancelled Moonlight and Three Rivers on him, so I hope this one lasts a while.

I think it's a winner! There were a few parts that were kind of a bit TOO shake-and-bake (I kind of think they should have had a longer pilot), but overall it really works! I had the advantage of not having seen the old show since the "old days" and have forgotten a whole lot, so this was almost like seeing this show with fresh eyes and not comparing it to anything that much.

I didn't compare it to the previous version either. I thought they did real well with it. Once the characters congeal a bit and are more defined in our own minds, I think this show will do real well.

You can watch lots of the old series on Hulu.com.

They had a big budget and they spent it on photography and good guest stars. Actors who became staples of 1970s and '80s TV dramas had their first big roles on H5-0 and many old-time movie stars had their first small-screen roles on that show.

While we don't think anything today of cop shows focusing on the "why" of crime, Hawaii 5-0 was one of the first shows to include such things as a criminal psychologist and a forensics specialist. It was certainly the first time in my young life I had ever seen crimes like arson and drug abuse pictured on a cop show as possible psychological problems. On a medical series, maybe, but not a law-and-order shoot 'em up. They also had multiple shows that were sympathetic to issues surrounding the then-hot-button situation in Vietnam.

If you pay close attention to how many of today's popular crime dramas (CSI Miami and NCIS, for example) are filmed -- not to mention how their lead actors behave -- you can see the stylistic debt they owe to Hawaii 5-0.

As a result of his TV success, plus family wealth, Jack Lord had a huge fortune. His only child predeceased him and he left the bulk of his estate to a scholarship fund for Hawaiian youth. He might not have been much of an actor, but he was a well-educated man who also painted. He spent much of his life in Hawaii and apparently his love for the islands wasn't faked.

I think the major difference between old and new Hawaii 5-0 will be the number of things that are going to get "blowed up real good," as they used to say on SCTV. And let's hope this Danno has more than two expressions.
Thanks for the memories. We used to stay up really late too watch this. It was considered somewhat of a scary show. I think it was on about midnight in my day.

Hey Kingdomcome1, I guess when I see the word remake, I instinctively cringe. For it's day, the old 5-0 was considered something of a trailblazer. I think when producers resurrect old shows, some of us who are old enough to remember those shows have some pretty high expectations.

It's actually not really fair to this show because I did have preconceived notions of what it should like that. My partner didn't like it either (and we rarely like the same tv shows). I am going to give it a chance, and I will.
