I did enjoy the "two fat ladies", tho.
I liked it also.
They were on last nite, actually a rather creative show when you think about it.
I'm enjoying watching Julia Child toss food around the kitchen, as always.

A show I miss is Cookin' Cheap
Cookin' Cheap

Would love to see that again as well some of the other mentioned.
Kind of like a T.V. Land of food shows.

I thought that one of the channels was going to be more instructional and informative and the other was going to be the flashier stuff like Triple D and the competitions.

I'd be OK with that.

That's what I thought, too, but so far it doesn't seem to be working out that way. I prefer the instructional shows (I still miss the Hearty Boys) -- competitions, not at all.

I thought it would be more variety, maybe around-the-world-PBS-type. Then I watched it and saw nothing but more Paula Dean and Giada.

I love the new channel. I won't watch Food Network anymore as it's all a bunch of boring competition shows for the most part.

So far I've enjoyed some Nigella, the Two Fat Ladies, and Julia Child. The Julia Child shows especially are timeless classics.

I take it that The Cooking Channel is a product of MTV(ooops.. I mean FOOD network) since the Cooking Channel advertises on Food Network?

The evolution from the food network to the cooking channel is much like the evolution of MTV going from playing videos to broadcasting TV shows.

Then we got MTV2, which worked out for a while. Lots of videos, more underground stuff. Then, MTV2 started playing reruns of shows broadcast on regular MTV. The station lost it's soul.

I want good instruction without the silly props. I miss the show Great Chefs. That was the show that really got me into cooking anyway. I remember trying to comprehend what caul fat was as the chef spoke in French or German while the translator always kept up.

That was an education.

It was visual and fantastic and the chefs didn't necessarily belong on TV, but the food spoke for itself. I wish we had more of that. And I admit, I was a huge fan of Jamie Oliver when he was the Naked Chef. That was a great vibe for a show, even if he wasn't churning out the greatest food.

I did find a program on the cooking channel of Elton Brown "Asphalt" something. He was on a road trip on motorcycles with some buddies. He cooked on an engine, on a campfire and visited small town joints along the cross country trip. Some of it was enlighting other times kind of dorky.

I wish they would do a cooking for singles that includes planning and shopping. I throw away so much food if I try to cook for myself. Honestly its cheaper to eat out and I don't mean fast food. Its not as healthy tho.
