Venus Fiber to build $50 million optic broadband network in Tyler. They will compete with Suddenlink. I am thrilled we will have a second choice for our internet and cable provider.

It's Vexus Fiber and yes, it's great that it's coming and will give Suddenlink a run for their money.

For those who are interested, if you live in an outlying area that won't be covered immediately (Chandler is one of those areas), you can go to the Vexus website and fill out an "interested" form. If they get enough interest, they will expand into your area! It's not an obligation, it's just an interest.

For the moment it does look great for those in need of better service than Suddenlink offers. However, Suddenlink is one of the top five employers in Tyler with around 1,000 employees, the last figures I've seen. Many, if not nearly all of those employees could be without jobs.

At this time, nothing is reported that Vexus will make Tyler any king of a Hub Operation employing many. Remember, Suddenlink bought out Cox Communications that already existed in Tyler, decades ago.

Competition is great. I don't think Suddenlink is going to go out of business. It's going to make them step their game up. That's like saying Brookshires is going out of business because Walmart and other grocery stores came to town. We have more than one electric provider. We have more than one taco place, more than burger joint, more than one sports store. We have more than one bank, hotel, restaurant, and etc. You get the drift. Why we can't have more than one cable provider?

If Suddenlink does shut down. The same people who worked at them can go work for Vexus. They already have the experience.

Hopefully, it will turn out as you say. Lets hope. As I pointed out, nothing was written or said about Vexus making a regional center of employment as Suddenlink did or happened when Cox Communication was taken over by or merged into Suddenlink.

Tyler primarily is medical jobs and retail jobs and other entry-level positions. Again, I hope for it to turn out as you suggest. Thanks for your input.

I don't think they are going to build a regional hub at least not yet. They just said a place where you can go get equipment and stuff.
