I lived in Guam when I was a youngster because my dad was in the military. It did have nice beaches and tropical weather. We even had a typhoon sweep the island. It's a very ethnically diverse place, but mainly Pacific Islander and Asian. I haven't been back there since my family and I moved back here to the U.S. mainland, but it's my understanding that Guam has really developed a lot.
My husband and I just arrived in Guam about a month ago due to military orders and we LOVE it here! The folks are friendly, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking and we are enjoying it very much. The roads in some areas are a little bumpy and if you don't watch, you could fall into a pothole. The only real complaint I have is that the restaurants here don't serve sweet tea. But I can fix it myself at my house, so it's not like I can't have it. It's so relaxing here, and when I'm on the beach, I feel like I'm inside a corona commercial. We love it here!

Sounds like you don't miss Kentucky a whole lot any more!
I'm finishing up day three of a four day visit to Guam. In a word, I would say it is "underrated." I read quite a few negative comments from Googling the island.
It is much prettier than I expected. Being Caucasian (and not military), I definitely feel out of place. lol.
But people have been very friendly...and since I'm here essentially for work, I'm not just talking about the tourist areas.
However, I can understand why Americans don't visit here much...it was such a long flight from Houston (via Honolulu), and very expensive to fly here. Living in North Carolina, I'll just stick with the Caribbean for an island vacation.

Awww, I'll always miss my kentucky, but it's just so pretty here, it helps with being homesick.

I totally agree with the bolded. I was bummed at first when we were told we were coming here, but when we got here, I was incredibly excited and had no idea it was this gorgeous here! I really will miss it once we leave the island. And we also flew in from Houston via honolulu and I was so done with flying by then. And our layover in honolulu was only 45 minutes. I was so tired of planes. lol!
