Now may be a good time to petition our elected representatives to government for redress of greivances. Would anyone be in the position they are now, if they could apply for unemployment compensation on the same at-will basis as an employment relationship? Imagine being able to apply for unemployment, simply for being "naturally" unemployed. It would not require any false witness bearing or government "red tape" as welfare currently does.

In my opinion, anyone having access to unemployment compensation, for being unemployed, would have more options and be a more active consumer with that money.

Can anyone provide any drawbacks to a public policy decision that could be more cost effective than welfare, as we currently know it?

Default We've all been brainwashed...

We've all been brainwashed...to think we must live in a $150,000 dollar house...instead of something like this...

One can purchase a barn shed type structure for as little as $10,000 cash...and live morgage free...these things can be very cozy...like a coveted city loft...

This idea that you must buy and live in a castle is out dated...buy and live in such a way that won't hold you captive...

Quite making the banks rich, and enrich yourself, by changing how you spend your money...

I think you can't live in that barn shed because it doesn't have a bathroom and kitchen. Best thing to do is get an apt room share through Craigslist, but having roomates can be a nightmare.

TimeandSpace, I agree with you. Shed, however, in WI would get mighty cold in Jan/Feb without insulation.

On the other hand a tent in the woods would be a damn sight colder

Ummm I never over did on my home, my mortgage is only 349. a month and it's only 1100 sqft. But I'll still loose it if I don't get a job soon.

I've done and am doing everything to find one too but at near 60 I face age discrimination big time.

Maybe you should do a nationwide temp job hunt. I will after my vacation. I face age discrimination too at 41 years old.

There's no reason you couldn't have both a bathroom and kitchen in there.

As a single man I would have no problem living in there.
