Hoping someone has some insight here. I have been steadily employed all my life. In August I left a job due to a hostile work enovironment. Several people left our office within a few weeks for the same reason. I applied for unemployment and was denied as I voluntarily left. I had a good case to appeal this decision but did not as I found work prior to being denied benefits. Having found work so quickly, I did not bother with the appeal. My new job was with a small business that ran into financial problems. After having been there only 3 weeks, they laid off most of the staff including myself. I just filed a new unemployment claim. Am wondering if I will likely be approved given that I was with the new company for only 3 weeks prior to being laid off.

No one can really tell you with any certainty if you will be qualified or not for unemployment. You just have to go down to an office, or call on the phone, and start the process to truly see if you are qualified or not. Not to sound unhelpful but there are tons of factors to take into account and since none of us work for your state's unemployment office, we truly can't tell you anything more than just try to apply.

Well I don't know what state you're in, but in California if your situation were happening, you would have been disqualified for the first claim for a voluntary quit. Then, you would have to "purge" your disqualification by making a certain amount of money ($1,300 I think- or maybe it goes by the amount you were making so could be more or less). But if you purge the DQ, then your old claim would be reopened and there would be a good chance that you could get benefits. I suggest you look on your states website or at least mention your state and how much you made in those 3 weeks. Good luck to you!
