I have been told by many sources that I am an excellent interviewer, I dress professionally and am a relatively good looking man. Why do you find being unemployed over these past 46 months so strange? Do you not know that there are over a 5 million people in the same situation? Secondly it is not like I have been sitting around doing nothing, as I posted earlier, I have gone back to school and gotten my degree, which took two years (full time) provided (volunteered) financial consulting for nonprofit entities as well as helping out a neighbor with her bookkeeping business (client support). I have also been helping my elderly mother as of late as she is having some health problems (both physical and mental), so we moved her to our apartment building and I drive her some times twice a week to her doctor.

I am not the problem, I have 30 years of professional experience, excellent references, and a business degree (cumlaude). I present myself well (with professionalism and confidence). The problem is this economy and the greed or selfishness that motivate most of the people running it into the ground, in my opinion.

- gone back to school and attained a BA in Business Management (4 year degree), my GPA was 3.8 (*** laude)
-volunteered for nonprofit organizations, preparing financial reports and financial consulting
- assisted a bookkeeper on a small project

I was wondering if any of my long term unemployed brethren would share a synopsis of their journey in the "unemployment wilderness"?
If you earned a 4 year degree over that 4 year period, then it doesn't count as being unemployed. If anything, you were being more ambitious than looking for jobs.

When I think unemployed over an XX year period, I think ... just looking for jobs and that's it...

And yes I do know people who have been unemployed and just looking for jobs for that long, or almost that long. Most of them are older, age 50 range.

i think you have filled in your "gap" quite nicely. i'm not berating you for being "unemployed" for 46 months nor do i think its strange. i don't even think you technicially were unemployed since you were in school at the time. the problem i saw was the 25 interviews. the fact that you've been invited to 25 interviews but not given a single offer is problematic. it shouldn't take that many interviews to land a job. there is something you're doing wrong when interviewing.

i'm not trying to be mean so no need to get defensive . we all have our little issues and i think you just need to step back to try to recognize what those might be. personally i have absolutely horrible fashion sense, am awkward, and have bad teeth, so i try to keep these things in mind and work on them when i'm interviewing or something. you are getting a lot of interviews so your resume must be decent. its just the interviews that are the problem. yes the economy sucks but since you can get interviews you can definitely get a job.

Well since 2009 I have only to get temp/contract employment -- two positions lasted around a year, last one lasted six months. I cannot find a full time job in my field first because according to recruiters I have had 'too much contract employment' which makes me look unstable and next because have severely damaged credit -- I basically had to stop paying several credit cards which led to them being chargedoff. Because I have an enormous amount of chargedoff credit card debt on multiple credit cards I have had offers rescinded because of this and then I never from that recruiting agency again

Based on your comments, I take it that you are employed and never expirenced any type of long term unemployment. I find that people who employed or haven't expirenced any long term unemployed simply don't understand the challenges one face these days in the job market.
