Well thats probably it folks. We should wait to see if H Reid has anything so say and any backup plans but now we know it cant get to the House this month , I got to wonder if they have anything else they can do but I think we need to realize that the extensions just may be done with.

Now they've moved on to the Baucus nomination so the UI bill is dead for now.

Basicaly H Reid said they will bring it up again in the future at some point. Most likely after the break. But they are still in 4 days next week so ya never know but in my opinion its done. So you all know the one senator who changes his vote was Senator portman.

Unbelievable and a travesty. I hate these folks with a passion. Sickening.

Here's the letter I received back from Sen Toomey:

Thank you for contacting me about federal unemployment benefits. I appreciate hearing from you.
As you may know, the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program was created on June 30, 2008 as a temporary measure to provide additional weeks of unemployment compensation beyond the standard six months available. Since that time, this temporary program has been extended eleven times, including last in December 2012 when I voted in support of a short-term extension (P.L. 112-240). EUC recently expired on December 28, 2013.
I understand your concern with the expiration of these emergency, extended benefits while our economy is still stagnant. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) introduced S. 1845, the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act, on December 17, 2013. Among its provisions, this measure would have enacted a three month extension of unemployment compensation, adding $6.5 billion to the deficit. Cloture (a procedural motion to end debate and consider final passage) on the bill failed by a vote of 55-45.
During Senate debate on S. 1845, you might be interested to know that I offered an amendment to extend emergency unemployment compensation for a full year and pay for the extension by eliminating wasteful spending. I also requested a vote on a common sense proposal-which has bipartisan support-to end unemployment compensation for people with at least $1 million in income. Unfortunately, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid refused to allow a vote on, or even to debate proposals that would appropriately pay for and reform the emergency unemployment system. Since Senator Reid refused to permit amendments, such as mine, which would have authorized extension of UI benefits while responsibly offsetting the cost and modestly reforming the system, I voted against ending debate on this bill.
I hope that Senator Reid will reconsider his opposition to debate and amendments. If he does, the Senate will likely pass an extension of UI benefits while saving taxpayer money and improving a flawed system.
Thank you again for your correspondence. Although we may disagree on this issue, please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Pat Toomey
U.S. Senator, Pennsylvania

Wow, in their suits that I'm sure cost more than I would have made in that 3 months!
