If you apply now, EDD uses 10/1/17 to 9/30/18. That will give only 2-1/2 quarters of wages. This will get you a good UI claim. You should apply between now and April 6, but not one day later. With this choice, you're looking at $450/wk for 26 weeks = $11,700 in total.

It gets even worse, if you wait until after April 6 because then you'll only have 1/1/18 to 12/31/18. That's only 1-1/2 quarters. While you'll get a good weekly benefit amount, you in all probability won't get 26 weeks. With this choice, you're looking at $450/wk for 24 weeks if I did my math right.

You should probably wait until the last minute to make sure that you're feeling better. If you take a turn for the worse after filing, then the clock will be ticking. If you can't work for a year, then the claim will expire with you having collected nothing, but if you wait much beyond the start of the July quarter, you'll have crappy wages to build claim. You'll get less than $450/wk for 13 weeks.
