First of all, thanks Chyvan for your help in advising me to skip the phone interview when I was applying for my claim. I feel this saved me a lot of headache in getting it through. I was approved soon after. For context on this, my old thread was titled, "[CA] Recently applied, skipping first EDD interview tomorrow. Advice on situation?"

I accepted a new job offer as of June 28th, and I'm really excited about it. I'd like to ask you if there's anything I should consider regarding the closing of my UE claim? Should I call the EDD claims department and tell them I accepted the offer on the 28th, or am I eligible to continue receiving benefits until I actually start work? I haven't received my start date yet, which might be in 1-2 weeks from now.

Thanks a lot for all your help. You're the best!

Accepting a job offer is NOT the same as working.

If you continue to look for work, you can claim your UI benefits right up until your first day of work.

You might even be able to claim partial UI benefits for your first week of work depending on earnings, hours, and the first day of the week you work. Someone that's starts on a Monday and works 40 hours no matter how little they earn isn't getting partial UI. Someone that starts on Wednesday has a chance at getting partial UI.

Do NOT call EDD to tell them anything.

You can communicate your situation via your claim form.

Since you haven't started, you claim benefits as normal, and you will be paid if you keep doing all the other stuff.

If you start late in the week, you'll report hours and gross earnings on your claim form, and EDD will know you went back to work.

If you start on Monday, then you just don't claim anymore, and EDD will know that you went back to work or don't want benefits. They don't care.
