I just want to get this straight so I have a couple questions. Here's my background. I'm in NC. My benefit year start is 2/22/09 and year end is 2/20/10. I started EUC 10/18/09 which is a 20 week extension. I was counting the weeks and it looks like the 20 weeks ends on 2/28/09. Can somebody double check that for me? Does that make me eligible/ineligible for the Tier II EUC? Also with my benefit year ending soon do I reapply for UI benefits? I did do some part time work during the claim period. If I get accepted for another year do I receive the same amount or does it change based on how much I worked during the claim period?

Issue No. 1 - EUC Tier System
Did your first Tier I claim week start on Sunday 10/18/2009 and end on Saturday 10/24/2009? The 20th week would be the claim week starting on Sunday 2/28/2010 and end on Saturday 3/6/2010. If the the above dates are correct, you would be one week late for Tier II. More important than the duration of 20 weeks is that you exhaust your Tier I balance, so you need to have a zero balance with the CWE 2/27/2010. If your checks are the same amount every week you should be able to divide your current balance by your weekly benefit amount to figure out when it ends. If you are currently reporting p/t earnings, this part could get a little complicated.

Quote:
ESC NC
Individuals must exhaust the first, second, or third tier of EUC08 no later than the week ending February 27, 2010 to qualify for the next higher tier.

Issue No. 2 - Benefit year ending 2/20/2010

Contact an agent to avoid interruption of whatever benefits you are receiving at that time. They will either 'continue your existing claim' or start you on a new claim.

Issue No. 3 - Wages earned during claim period
This comes into play when you contact an agent on your anniversary. Wages earned and number or weeks worked will determine whether you qualify for a 'new benefit year' and the weekly benefit amount MAY change. If you don't qualify for 'new', you continue with the old weekly benefit amount.

My claim started 1-31-2010
I have a 20 week extension.

Does this mean the payments will stop on 2-27-2010?

Did your initial claim start on 1-31-2010 -- or did your 20-week extension start on that date?

In order to get a 20-week extension -- which would be Tier I -- you need to have exhausted your regular benefits (up to 26 weeks) no later than February 20, 2010. February 21 is the latest day you can begin Tier I.

February 27 is the latest day you can exhaust your current Tier to be eligible for the next Tier. February 28 is the latest day you can start Tier II, III, or IV.

February 27 is not the expiration date for payments -- it is the cut-off date for qualifying for Tiers II, III, and IV.

For any Tier you begin on or before February 28, you will be allowed to collect the full number of weeks you are allotted in that Tier. But you will not be able to go on to the next Tier after that date.

Started collecting May 1/2009 and got my first Federal Extension in October/2009. My last check with Fed. Ext. is due 3/14/10. Will my unemployment end on 3/14/10? My husband's working 3 days and we've depleted almost all of our savings. Our house is worth $125k less than 2 years ago. We will be forced to sell it at the amount owed and leave with 0 Savings, no house and 3 day income! We've both been gainfully employed for 30 years already and our credit score is 810. Is the government going to let us go homeless. We're both 55 and can't retire for another 10 years. Never thought we'd see this happen!

sorry to say this..as of now yes your federal extensions will stop..you had to end your Tier by Feb 27,2010 to continue to next Tier (excluding Tier1..Tier 1 you had to exhaust by Feb 21st).

This all be fixed soon and you can continue to receive benefits..but there will be a gap now..due to one strange Senator from Kentuckey who alone stopped this.

From what I read seems your getting week ending 2/27 and 3/6 paid/claimed 3/17..thats a week to far.

just to say...its possible they will retro payments to where you stopped in this new bill they are working on..not sure.

I'm pretty sure thats all you will get if your approved for a second consecutive claim is that 15 weeks..there will be no more federal extensions for you.

Really you would of been better off not being approved for that second claim (of 15 weeks). More in extensions since you said you only used up Tier 1

Tier 2, 3 and 4 wasn't even used up yet in your original UI claim.

they just new to rewrite this whole bill and get rid of all that file before XXXX finish claim before XXXX. it really makes no sense at all. if you were laid off at the right time you can end up getting over 2 years of unemployment. but if you were laid off recently you receive far far less. are they trying to say that those who were recently laid off should be cut off first? it just really makes no sense at all when you think about it there are many people who will receive unemployment well after others have been cut off even though they have been on it longer.

it just doesnt make any sense at all!

yeah I know it would've been better if I didn't get approved but it's what I had to do since my benefit year was ending. I had no other choice.
