I do things such as opening windows and banging pots and pans. Here in Ohio, no one seems to do that, and after two years, I think we will dispense with this, left out neighbors think we are crazy.

I clean the house withing an inch of it's life. Before bedtime, I take a bath with lavender and sage. I also sage thr whole house.

Sometimes I anoint the doors and lintels with Frankincense oil.

What do you do, if anything?

Sweep the floors. Take a shower. Wear yellow underwear. Eat 12 grapes.

Same here for me and the wife. Here in Brooklyn people yell out the winows or in the street in front of wherever they are partying.

When I lived in the south, we'd eat Hoppin' John (black eyed peas, rice, and ham) and collard greens for luck in the new year.

My only ritual is disliking New Years Eve and going to bed before midnight. New Years Day is a do nothing day.

I don't even care about the luck. I just love Hoppin' John and collards. With cornbread. And pepper vinegar for the greens. Next to Thanksgiving, that was the best special dinner of the year.

Dang, now I'm hungry.

Growing up my Mother put pennies on the outside windowsills before 12. After 12 she brought them in. Was supposed to mean the people in that house would be bringing in money all year. She was mildly superstitious. I'm not at all. So I don't do it, but I do remember and it's a pleasant thing to remember.

In the part of the South where I grew up, it was always black eyed peas & hog jowls or ham hocks with greens (turnip, collard, mustard or a mix of all three.). Never any rice involved. White, unsweetened cornbread. And sport pepper sauce.
I cooked all that for New Years Day, just as I have for the last 35 years.

Oh--we always make it a point not to wash clothes on New Years Day. If you do wash clothes on that day, someone in the family will DIE.

And if you wait long enough, this will come true!
