Now Ive heard it all.. giving young mums money or vouchers to breastfeed.. scandalous waste of our tax payers money. Surely if a mother wants to feed their baby by bottle or breast its up to them and not to be tempted in this way .... I was breast fed and was a sickly child all my life. I have allergies and a low immune system... so catch anything thats going around... IM not blaming the way I was fed but I think these researchers sometimes get it all wrong.. New mums 'paid' to breastfeed baby - AOL Money UK

Breast feeding is by far the best thing for a baby. Research clearly shows that formula fed babies are more likely to catch infections, that their development isn't as good and the bonding between mother and child more difficult. Unfortunately, we have become a society that favors convenience over what's best. I don't think it's a bad idea. In a perfect world we would all make the right decisions, but that is far from reality.

I've just realized that this is a research test. Hardly a "scandalous waste of tax money" is it!!

So do i, it discriminates between woman who can breast feed and women who cannot, for various reasons.
Breast is best but it is not always possible for some women, this sort of thing can be very upsetting it can cause depression and feelings of inadequacy for those women. Giving birth can be a very emotional time they don't need more rubbish to cope with.

When I had my first three children in the 60s.. we were handed a small bottle in hospital and no one was encouraged at all to breast feed, I only knew of one asian woman who did this behind screens, so it just wasnt the done thing then.. it might sound strange to some , but its the way it was, and what we were used to...and as Cushla said, after the trauma of childbirth and sore boobs, its all a young mum needs is to be coaxed or tempted into doing this...if they dont wish to..

I think the money would be better used in giving more breastfeeding support to those who are having issues breastfeeding.
