Whilst your other reccomendation 'How to be an Alien' by George Mikes, was first published in 1946 and British Society today is very different to that of 70 years ago.
I am so fed up hearing the term "continental Europe". There is a Continent called "Europe" period, end of story. It just so happens the british isles are part of it. The proper way to ask this question would be, how are the British viewed by other nations of Europe?
What am I missing? If you don't want to be part of Europe, get your paddles out and row your island across the atlantic.
I wish we could, park us somewhere near Bermuda perhaps.
Don't bother. The EU will get on just fine without the UK. I keep saying it, you haven't left yet. In the meantime your economy will slowly but surely fall apart.
The british are just not getting it. This is not about the EU. It is about Europe which consists of about 50 sovereign states including the British Isles. A Europe you will never fit in because you consider yourself to be exceptional. You drive on the wrong side of the road, have your own currency, use electric voltage and outlets not used by the rest of the world, resist adopting the metric system, your basic food sucks, you are the most obese people in Europe. What else, oh yes, you are very suspicious of anything european. Get and read a book, called "How to be an Alien" by George Mikes. Another book I can highly recommend is "Pox Britannica, The Unmaking Of The British" by Clive Irving.
How is the weather by the way, lovely isn't it? I forgot, this is the daily topic in England.
Seems to bother you doesn't it, for your information YOU are driving on the wrong side of the road, who said anything about being 'exceptional'? Look we don't feel very European so what? Personally I think we feel a closer bond with our Anglo cousins, so what? As for our 'own currency', many countries on this planet have their 'own currency' so what? As for the rest of your post you have just started throwing insults, ze Germans are every bit as obese and by the way the weather in the UK is far preferable to the weather in Germany.

Eastie, can I call you eastie old chap, good.
So what?
No, it does not bother me at all. I just like to rub it in especially when I am around english/british people. Better yet, when I am there surrounded by citizens of England or Great Britain or Britain or the United Kingdom. Blimey, why all these different names? I know, I know, you don't have to explain it to me. I may be German, but I can read wiki.
Beautiful weather today, isn't it? At least over here.
It may be 70 years old, but ver little ever changes in good old England. Most of those comments are still spot on. LOL
We have changed as much as the Germans, French, Italians and Spanish in the last 70 years, then again the least said about some of that generation of Germans the better.

Then stop bringing THAT GENERATION OF GERMANS into the discussion.
