Because they're part of NATO? The Houthis are interrupting the shipping lanes which will be bad for everyone if they continue.

Bit hard to stay out of it when the Houthis are disrupting the busiest trade route between Europe and Asia.

The U.S, Britain, Canada and the Netherlands are part of the operation to put an end to Houthi drone and missile attacks against cargo ships of all nations in the Red Sea.

I am fine with not becoming involved in supporting US actions and having a relationship with the US that is more similar to some of our European neighbours.

I do however find it strange that Americans would criticise the UK for supposedly dropping bombs (missile strikes) after ships of the Royal Navy were attacked by drones and anti-ship missiles were used for the first time by a group such as the Houthis.

In reality a coalition made up of the US, UK, Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands merely took out some facilities related to drone and anti-shipping missile type activities in order to try and prevent further attempted attacks on civilian and indeed military ships in the region.

Air strikes against Houthi military targets in Yemen - GOV.UK (12th January 2023)

In terms of the US between 1965 and 1975, the United States dropped double the amount of bombs on Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia than were dropped during the entirety of World War II in both the European and Pacific/Asian theatres, and then there was the use of all that Agent Orange and Napalm, whilst lets not forget there is only one country in the world that has used atomic weapons against a civilian population.

Whilst the hundreds of thousands of deaths were caused by US missiles and drones in the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan in recent decades also seem to have been forgotten, as has the US practice of double tap in order to kill any one involved in a possible rescue of people trapped in the rubble following the initial drone strike.

If some Americans are so concerned then perhaps we can close the largest NSA and NRO base outside the US at Menwth Hill, which is used by the US in relation to intelligence and drone targeting, and there are a host of other US intelligence and military bases in the UK that can also be closed.

Perhaps after November 2024, the Donald can help change relations between Europe and the US, and we will no longer be so willing to support our supposed American allies when it comes to such future military operations, although Biden seems to be already doing a good job of destroying what's left of US credibility on the world stage..

NATO’s mandate is to collectively react to acts on member states. Have the houthis done this?

UK and US naval forces shot down Houthi Anti-Ship missiles and drones in the Red Sea, with both navies belonging to NATO.

In terms of the response it was a coalition included non-NATO members such as Australia and Bahrain.

Generally if you keep trying to destroy military vessels with anti-ship missiles and drones you are going to elicit a response, and that includes strikes against sites connected to such missile and drone activity.
