Remember The Saint with was it Ian Ogilvie or Anthony Andrews. It was over my head, I was a kid, but I remember it being on the air. Was it British?
One show that had and still has kind of a cult following was The Prisoner with Patrick McGoohan. Remember that one? Kind of weird, but at onetime I enjoyed that one.
Well, I have not seen my all-time favourite listed:
EastEnders. Yes, I know, but, I became hooked when my son lived there. Can't see current versions here in America anymore, PBS shows 5 year old versions late on Sunday night. Have to catch up on the web.
American shows? Not many to brag about, most have been mentioned. But, my one fav that is kind of taking a BBC style (only a few shows taped each year; the season is about 8 weeks long)...is "My Boys" about a female Chicago sportswriter and her male friends....it is on TBS here in the states. Great writing and good comedy!
Any crime/detective show in UK is far superior to the current run of CSI things where we're supposed to believe that crime scene technicians commonly participate in interrogations, arrests, and SWAT operations. duh.
But Hill Street Blues was great.
And BBC-America does have an interesting off-hours schedule. Think TIVO.
The US'ers here watching BBCA must have a better regional line up than I do - never heard of half of these shows.
I love Graham Norton! Celebs on Letterman and Leno must have so many pre-show contractual "can't talk about"s that all they talk about is everyone's kids and whatever new show is being hyped. Really tedious. Norton is hilarious and I love the audience too, very game for whatever he's putting up.
I also like MI-5
There was another cop drama I only saw part of a season of that I really liked but I can't remember the name.....
I'm always amazed at how many shows (and movies) I'm watching in the U.S. only to find out that there was an earlier British version. You Brits should feel very ripped off!
Of course pay back has come, so many of our actors, actresses and musicians are Brits, Aussies or Canadians there are hardly any U.S.'ers left
