What are some things that Big cities offer that medium sized cities don’t or have very few options. For example most big cities have food halls now, while a lot of medium sized cities are just now getting them.

Good topic question. I would suggest the following:

Presence of at least 3, if not all 4, of the major pro sports leagues

Hub airport for a major legacy airline carrier

More cultural events, including more of the current major musical acts (vs. being passed over)

- Major League sports teams
- An airport hub, that also has a decent amount of international destinations
- Large F500 presence
- is a destination stop for broadway plays, and tier 1 traveling shows/acts
- has extensive public transportation options
-Embassy's
-Federal gov't amenities (fed reserve, passport office, US Mint, etc.)

You can find at least one restaurant of any major ethnicity with a significant diaspora in the US. Reno stood out to me vs. other places I'd lived for not having this (no European besides Italian and a Basque place, no African besides one Ethiopian place, no regional Chinese or regional Indian).

*An array of museums featuring either more variety, higher quality, and/or more widely known masterpieces of famous works.
*More exclusive high-end shopping brands (see the "Best high end shopping destinations 2020" thread for details)
*A wider array of walkable neighborhoods for car-free living and visiting (except for perhaps some of the sunbelt cities)
*Cathedrals and megachurches (Archdiocese as opposed to a diocese for instance)
*Foreign consulates
*More specialized healthcare and educational facilities (i.e. school for a certain career, treatment for rare diseases)

I was actually going to go one step further: having multiple restaurants for various ethnic cuisines. So not just whether you have the option or not, but having competition and being able to choose the better/best of the bunch.

I'm down with your list, with perhaps the exception of the consulates. That said, I live a 45 min flight from NYC so those are within reach, if needed, as are the museums....but oh to have some of those magnificent museums closer by....

My city has almost all these things and it is not a "Major City", though it was at one time. Probably part of why. Also why we say "Cleveland has big city amenities and a small town COL."
Cleveland ROCKS!
