My family and I will be moving away from South Florida later this year and am interested in relocating to Utah. I'm originally from Buffalo, NY so the cold weather doesn't bother me to much. I'm actually looking forward to the change of seasons again. My wife is from Miami, FL but enjoys the cold weather as much as I do.

We'd like to concentrate on two or three towns/cities in UT to move too. We both work in a corporate america setting and need good schools for our son.

We're just starting to plan our move so I'm sure we'll have a lot of questions down the road. Any and all information provided will be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on your possible move! To help, we would need to know approx what your housing budget would be, how far you would want to live from Salt Lake, will you be commuting? If so, how long of a commute could you handle?

BTW-my parents are originally from upstate NY, too!!

We're considering S Utah: St. George or Cedar City. We're wanting the change of seasons that we don't get in Florida but we don't want the accumulation of snow that N. Utah gets.

Cedar City is pretty high, and I believe they get some fairly significant snow accumulations, even though they are quite a bit farther south than Salt Lake City. Personally, I'd go for St. Geroge, but it can get pretty hot in the summer. (That wouldn't bother me, but it might you.)

St. George doesn't change seasons too much. It's fairly warm (50's) in winter, and really hot in the summer (105s). Cedar City has a pretty similar climate to Salt Lake City due to its elevation.

Salt Lake did not receive very much snow this year at all. I think the total was less than 10 inches...?

Unfortunately, it seems to still be coming, though.

SLC recorded 36.2 inches of snow so far this season-normal is like 62ish. So while we were below normal, that can still be alot to shovel..

Grrr...yes, it does. That's what you bench dwellers get. *I*, however, have only seen rain in my neck of the woods.

It was that much? Wow. It really didn't seem it. DH was laid up with ankle surgery for Jan and Feb and never once needed to shovel. Good thing, too, because I wasn't going to do it!
